Currently, blepharoplasty which is surgical lift of upper and lower eyelid aimed at anti-aging - is considered to be one of the most in-demand operations. The principle of this method is to reduce abundance of skin and fatty tissue in the area of upper and lower eyelids.
For whom blepharoplasty is recommended?
In most cases blepharoplasty is prescribed for persons of ripe years (on the shady side of forty) having as the years go bywrinkles above upper eyelids, or hernias, or abundance of skin and as a result it lies down on eyelashes making a person visually older.
Bulging of suborbicularis oculi fat (so called baggy lower eyelids) may also become the indication forblepharoplasty. This operation performs other tasks as well, for exampleptosisof the eye lateral angle (congenital or age-related).
What do we expect of the operation?
With the help of blepharoplasty the following problems can be solved:
- to get rid of abundance of skin and fatty tissue around eyelids;
- to reduce the evidence of age-related changes;
- to make plastic repair of periorbital area muscles;
- to change eye shape.
Blepharoplasty does not eliminate expression wrinkles in the angles of eyes.
What are the types of this surgery?
Blepharoplasty is performed under general or local anesthesia (depending on the operation complexity). There are several types of blepharoplasty:
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty
The reasons for this operation are abundance of skin cover in the upper eyelid area (skin overhangs ciliary margin), or subdermal fatty herniacausing frown expression on the face. Abundance of skin cover in the upper eyelid area can lead tovision disorders and rapid ocular fatigue, it can become an obstacle to proper make-up. Eye lift will help to get rid of sagging fold in the upper eyelid area and again to acquire a frank look and charm in the eyes. Experienced ophthalmosurgeons of the SVIT ZORU clinic will make an operation very accurately using the most modern methods.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty
This type of blepharoplasty is considered to be the most complicated.Indications for this operation arecrumpled skin andswollenfolds under eyes overhanging above cheekbones. They may be caused by inherited predisposition or aged-related atrophy of orbicular muscleof the eye. The key point of the plastic repair is fatty hernia excision and ablation of loose skin remnants in the lower eyelid area.As a result eye bags and under eye puffiness are eliminated which makes eyes more fresh and young.
Circular blepharoplasty is simultaneous plastic repair of upper and lower eyelids.
How does the post-operative period proceed?
The post-operative recovery period lasts 7-10 days.
Immediately after the operation cooled gel padsare placed on eyelids which contribute to puffiness reduction. In order to remove such effects as eye redness, burning, pruritus andshort-term sensory anesthesiain the eyelid area, a surgeon prescribes anti-inflammatory eye drops.
Stitches will be taken out in 5-7 days, as a rule during this time oedemata and post-operative black-and-blue go away. Bruises may remain in operated areas for a longer time – 10-30 days.
This is important…
During the whole recovery period after the operation one should limit excessive physical activity and excludelong-term insolation.
The operation results can be assessed in a month and a half.
In most cases a need ofrepeated operation arises in no event sooner than 7-10 years. It is common practice to repeat upper and lower eyelid operation maximum 3 times.
